COU 662 - Career and Lifestyle Development (3) This course informs students about vocational and career counseling. The course also addresses interrelationships of career, family, and other roles which affect work. The impact of multicultural, gender, and lifestyle issues on careers is considered. In addition, students will explore their own career development and begin to construct a descriptive career portfolio. As a result of this course, students will: 1) Demonstrate knowledge of historical and current theories as well as various approaches and strategies related to career counseling; 2) Demonstrate and enhance “helping skills” as they relate to career counseling; 3) Demonstrate proficiency in the use of technology as it relates to career counseling; 4) Develop understanding for gender, cultural, lifestyle, and disability issues as they relate to career counseling; 5) Develop a personal career portfolio. Required core course.
