EDU 311 - Reading and Language Arts I (3)Prerequisite: EDU 211 In this methods course, students explore the development of language and communication skills essential for effective reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking. Grounded in reading science, students examine the five pillars of literacy instruction: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Students learn how to design explicit, systematic, and multimodal literacy instruction in each of these pillars. They learn how to tailor literacy instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with dyslexia and multilingual learners. Emphasis is placed on implementing state and national reading and language arts standards.
