PSY 314 - Advanced Biopsychology (3)Prerequisites: PSY 117 or BIO 216 or BIO 356 or permission. The study of human cognition, emotion, and behavior as it is influenced by factors such as brain structures, neurotransmission, genetics, and hormones. Topics typically covered include gene-environment interactions in selected behaviors and conditions, stress, gut-brain connection, brain development and degenerative diseases, and hormone influences on behavior. Students successfully completing the course will demonstrate an understanding of the empirical findings in the topics mentioned, the major theoretical explanations for these findings, and in general, the degree to which current psychological explanations of human behavior can be related to biological factors.
