ENG 239 - Narrative Medicine (3) This course will introduce students to narrative medicine and the broader Health Humanities field by exploring the intersection between the study of narrative and the art of caregiving. Students will examine the narrative features of medicine and the integration of narrative competency to improve outcomes for patients and providers. They will identify and practice the foundational techniques of narrative medicine, a model of healthcare that involves paying close attention to the patient, representing these observations in meaningful narratives, and thereby forming closer, more authentic, and more effective therapeutic relationships. Students will also explore how generative AI is reshaping clinical interactions, provider skills, and patient experiences.
