A concern for the environment, its resources, and its continuing sustainability is fundamental to our well-being as individuals and as members of the world community. Environmental and Earth Sciences Department students examine a range of topics that arise from the interaction of humans with the environment.
The department offers two Bachelor of Science degree majors. The Environmental Science major focuses on the interactions between the solid Earth, its air, its water, its living organisms, and on the relationships between these components. It is a major that addresses environmental challenges by applying scientific knowledge in environmental science, geology, life science, and chemistry. The Environmental Studies major focuses on the human dimensions of environmental topics. This major provides broadly integrated opportunities related to the governmental, business and policy aspects of environmental challenges.
The curriculum includes studies in earth system science, natural resources, agriculture, geography, and geology. Experiences in the classroom, laboratory, and field prepare graduates for careers and graduate study in science, business, science teaching, government, law, and non-profit organizations.
