Offered on the Crete campus

Do you thrive on solving complex problems with precision and logic? Are you energized by the idea of helping organizations make strategic decisions that drive real impact? Accounting is more than number-crunching - it powers every successful business decision. Doane’s accounting majors prepare students for a variety of careers in business, both in and out of the accounting field. Our accounting program transforms your natural analytical abilities into professional expertise that organizations value and seek. You can customize your path by choosing either our Accounting-Public or Accounting-Managerial major. With either degree, you will gain hands-on experience in real-world scenarios and develop the technical knowledge that employers demand across industries.

Many accounting students plan to take a certification examination (e.g., CMA - Certified Management Accountant, or CPA - Certified Public Accountant); however, accountants can have successful careers without a certificate. Students qualify to take the CMA exam upon completion of the accounting major. Those considering the CPA exam must meet additional state-mandated requirements, including completing 150 credit hours. Academic advisors at Doane work closely with students who are considering certification options.

Licensure and Certification: As educational requirements vary by state, students interested in this program should consult the General Licensure and Certification Disclosure page prior to enrollment.

Students who complete the B.A. in Accounting will be able to:

  1. Organize and interpret data to produce financial statements and reports.
  2. Analyze, interpret, and communicate information conveyed in financial statements.
  3. Understand the requirements of regulatory bodies and prepare documents that conform to these standards.
  4. Recognize ethical dilemmas in accounting and apply a decision-making model to address them.
  5. Develop a strong understanding of the interrelated business functions and how accounting speaks to these.

Accreditation

Doane’s Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
