Generative AI is an exciting new frontier for those with training on compositions, textual analysis, and storytelling. Narrative knowledge and rhetorical competence are now critical ingredients for professional resiliency and career development, since large language models (LLM) mirror and amplify the critical, imaginative, and interpretive functions traditionally cultivated by literary scholars. The Writing and Working with AI minor draws upon these areas of study to prepare students to collaborate with AI models across diverse professional contexts and creative applications. Courses on rhetorical strategy, narratology, literary research, and more enable students to engage generative AI in ethical ways for content generation, creative ideations, information gathering, and other professional applications. These experiences enhance efficiency and productivity in a rapidly evolving digital landscape across a range of career paths, equipping students with critical skills to interpret meaning, recognize bias, and explore complex narratives. This minor serves students preparing for a growing list of careers in which the ability to direct AI, evaluate its outputs critically, and infuse this work with humanity and originality determines professional success.
