Master of Arts in Management Program


Mission of the Master of Arts in Management Program

The mission of the Master of Arts in Management (MAM) program is to develop effective managers who:

  • Communicate and collaborate with others effectively;
  • Understand the ethical dimension of business decisions;
  • Apply economic, financial, and managerial theories to meet organization goals;
  • Develop leadership skills that apply to either for-profit or not-for-profit organizations and;
  • Present and implement solutions to address business problems and meet goals.

Program Design

Students who enroll in the Master of Arts in Management program complete one of four program options.

Option One

The Leading Edge WITHOUT an emphasis (42 credit hours)

  • 24 hours of core course (8 courses)
  • 15 hours of elective courses (5 courses)
  • 3 hours of Leading Edge credit (three one-credit courses)
  • Plus one non-credit preparation course (term prior to first Leading Edge credit)

Option Two

The Leading Edge WITH an emphasis (42 credit hours)

  • 24 hours of core course (8 courses)
  • 15 hours of emphasis courses (5 courses)
  • 3 hours of Leading Edge credit (three one-credit courses)
  • Plus one non-credit preparation course (term prior to first Leading Edge credit)

Option Three

Thesis WITHOUT an emphasis (39 credit hours)

  • 24 hours of core course (8 courses)
  • 9 hours of elective courses (3 courses)
  • 6 hours of research methods courses

Option Four

Thesis WITH an emphasis (45 credit hours)

  • 24 hours of core course (8 courses)
  • 15 hours of emphasis courses (5 courses)
  • 6 hours of research methods courses

Emphases and Capstone Options

Two emphasis areas are offered: Leadership and International Business.

The Leadership Emphasis consists of nine credits of core courses listed below and six elective credits.

The International Business Emphasis consists of nine credits of core courses listed below and six elective credits.

Two capstone options are offered: The Leading Edge Leadership Institute and Thesis.

All incoming students are automatically enrolled in The Leading Edge (students may choose either an emphasis or elective option). If students wish to pursue the Thesis option, students must make application and be accepted into the Thesis option. Applications for the Thesis option are available from the Director of The Leading Edge and Thesis Capstone Programs. The Thesis option takes approximately one year longer to complete than The Leading Edge.

With any option, students complete a foundation course that serves as an introduction to both qualitative and quantitative research methods. This course, BUS 680 - Foundations of Research (3) , is a core course that all students complete during their first 12 credits in the program.

Students who choose The Leading Edge option will complete one zero credit course (BUS 785 ), followed by three one-credit courses (BUS 786 , BUS 787 , and BUS 788 ). Students are eligible to enroll in BUS 785  upon successful completion of 30 or more credits in the program. BUS 785 , BUS 786 , BUS 787 , and BUS 788  may be taken simultaneously with other coursework. However, students may want to consider the labor-intensive nature of this capstone course when considering scheduling.

Students who choose the Thesis option will complete an additional research methods course (BUS 681  or BUS 682 ) and BUS 795 , BUS 796 , and BUS 797  (Thesis courses). These courses must be taken at the end of the student‘s program, once all other coursework has been completed. Completion of these final research methods courses and the Thesis takes approximately one year after coursework is completed.

Master of Arts in Management

Programs
