PSY 314 - Physiological Psychology (3)Prerequisite: PSY 117 . The study of human cognition, emotion, and behavior as it is influenced by factors such as brain structures, neurotransmission, genetics, and hormones. Topics typically covered include gene-environment interactions in selected psychological disorders and behaviors, stress as a psychological and physical phenomenon, the relationship between brain development and cognitive activity, and the relationship between neurotransmission and addictive behaviors. Students successfully completing the course will demonstrate an understanding of the empirical findings in the topics mentioned, the major theoretical explanations for these findings, and in general, the degree to which current psychological explanations of human behavior can be related to biological factors.
