HIS 353 - Modern World History (3)Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or permission. This course will examine the “long” history of the twentieth century world - the last decades of the nineteenth century through the first decades of the twentieth century - from global and western perspectives. It will selectively integrate the recent history of Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and India through discussions of the main social, political, cultural and economic forces that shaped and continue to affect the global society in which we live today. Students who successfully complete this course will gain an understanding of the historical contexts of several major concepts that have shaped the history of the modern world, including colonialism, imperialism, nationalism, political revolution, global conflict, and peace building.
